When Should I Wear An Isolation Gown?

The isolation gown is used to protect the medical staff's arms and exposed body areas. Wear a gown when it may be contaminated by the patient's blood, body fluids, secretions, and excreta. The degree of protection of the isolation gowns currently available on the market for blood and body fluids depends on the type of material, especially the permeability resistance, abrasion resistance and tear resistance.

The role of isolation gowns in controlling the spread of infections is still controversial. Some studies have shown that routine use of isolation gowns is not beneficial for infection control, but there are also studies that prove that the use of isolation gowns can indeed reduce the infection rate. But in any case, there is no doubt that the gown is an indispensable component of personal protective equipment for medical personnel.

So, when do you need to wear a isolation gown?

1. Wear isolation gown when handling or contaminating the patient's clothes, blood, body fluids, secretions, and excreta, to protect medical personnel's arms and exposed areas.

2. When possible to be contaminated by the patient's blood and body fluids, wear a isolation gown and gloves and implement standard precautions.

3. Contact isolation measures are used for all patients who are infected or colonized with pathogens that can be transmitted by direct contact. When entering the isolation ward, wear isolation gown and gloves before touching the patient or the surrounding environment of the patient.

4. Different isolation gown have different levels of protection, and can be selected according to their own needs and the degree of exposure to infectious substances and the degree of possible contamination of blood and body fluids.
